Through the Tunnel

Duration
15 minutes

Can you crawl through the tunnel? I will be waiting at the other end!

  2. 2

I can see you in there — keep coming!

  3. 3

You made it through! That was brilliant!

  4. 4

Shall we do it again? Even faster this time?

What did it feel like inside the tunnel?

Questions to Ask

  • I can see you in there — keep coming!
  • You made it through! That was brilliant!

Teacher Notes

Observe whether child crawls through independently. Note any claustrophobic anxiety. Log: crawls independently / crawls with encouragement / refuses entry.

Extension / Enrichment

Support: For anxious children: sit beside the open tunnel entrance and let them explore at their own pace before expecting full crawl-through. Extend: Place objects inside the tunnel for child to collect while crawling through.

Assessment

Observe whether child crawls through independently. Note any claustrophobic anxiety. Log: crawls independently / crawls with encouragement / refuses entry.

Home Connection

A row of chairs with a blanket draped over makes a perfect home tunnel. This is one of the highest-value gross motor activities for this age group.
